Estes Park Marathon

Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22, 2014: Estes Park Marathon, Marathon Relay, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, 5K & Kids Fun Run

Open meadows. Forested and stream-lined residential property. Looming, spectacular peaks stretching toward the sky. All are integral to the Estes Park Marathon course that is known for having the highest paved route in the nation. Bond Park in downtown Estes Park is the perfect spot for kid’s activities and races.

The challenging USA Track & Field (USATF)-recognized race is held on Sunday. As part of this event, there is a race for every member of the family: a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10K and5K combined into the same race day. Walkers are encouraged to join the fun. And everybody’s off the course in seven hours. The Kid’s Fun Run and family activities take place on Saturday.

There is race-day registration for the 10K and 5K races. There is no race-day registration for the marathon or the half marathon. All races take place at high altitude, so please be prepared. Tips for high-altitude racing can be found at the race website.

June 28, 2014 – June 29, 2014

Scandinavian Midsummer Festival

Celebrate Summer Solstice at the 2014 Scandinavian Midsummer Festival on Saturday June 28th from 9:30-5, and Sunday the 29th from 9:30-4.

 

The festivities begin at 9:30 am Saturday with the raising of the Maypole, followed at 10 am by a Grand March entrance. Costumed representatives from each of the five Scandinavian countries enter the park carrying the flag of their country, followed by the national anthems. Dancing and live music continue all day. Exhibits feature Scandinavioan inspired or traditional food, baked goods, decorations and hand-crafted pottery, glass, metal and woodwork, jewelry, painting, photography,  and more.

 

Norway will be well represented by a Viking encampment re-enactment by the Fjellborg Vikings of Colorado. There will be swordsmanship, a Viking ship replica, traditional crafts and daily life demonstrations at the historically correct encampment.

 

In addition there will be a vintage car show for Volvos and Saabs, silent auction and a raffle for two round trip air fares from Denver to Scandinavia on Iceland Air!

Coolest Car Show

More than 120 “Steam -to-Electric” vehicles will be displayed around Bond Park in the heart of downtown Estes Park. Along with steam and electric cars, other street rods, stock cars, muscle cars, sports cars, vintage and classic cars will be on display.

 

To make it easier for all Estes Park guests to get around, on July 4th, the Estes Park FREE Shuttles have extended evening service hours so all can easily attend the evening festivities. See the Shuttles page or call 970-577-9900 for more information on the shuttle system.

Music & Fireworks!

At 7 p.m., the Estes Village Band tunes up for its annual patriotic concert featuring the works of John Philip Sousa and others. Admission is Free at the Performance Park Amphitheater, at the west end of downtown.

The Fireworks show over Lake Estes starts at 9:30pm.  Find a grassy spot at Stanley Park, along the Lake Estes Trail or on your favorite mountainside and enjoy!

PRCA Rooftop Rodeo

Midway Gates open at 5:30 pm. Come early to pick your seats, browse, shop, and grab a bite.  Booths feature face painting, Western music and more. Evening kick-off performances start at 7 pm each night and rodeo events begin at 7:30 pm at the Fairgrounds at Stanley Park. Including Riatta Ranch Girls, a show of trick riding and roping! Mutton Bustin’ happens each night at 8:30 and a Calf Scramble is held at 9 pm on weekend nights.

Behind the Chutes Tours offer an exclusive behind-the scenes look at all the rodeo action and are scheduled for 4:30 and 5:30 pm each night. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children three- to 11-years old, and can be purchased online. In 2013, these tours sold out each night, so get your tickets early. Groups of 20 or more may make arrangements for special tours (call 970-577-3920).

Rooftop Rodeo Parade

The 10:30 am Rooftop Rodeo Parade on Tuesday, July 8 kicks off the six-day event as entries make their way from the west end of town on Elkhorn Avenue (Estes Park’s main street) to Fourth St. on their way to the Fairgrounds at Stanley Park, adjacent to Lake Estes at U.S. Highway 36 and Community Drive. The parade traditionally features hundreds of horses, marching units, hitches, cowboys and cowgirls, floats, and antique cars.
